Narcissistic abuse is a fascinating, complex and intimidating disorder for therapists to treat in their practices. In this presentation, Barb will explore the attitudes and behaviors identifying narcissistic abuse and give a clear understanding of how to begin treatment for the victimized client. Helping to put back the pieces of the broken puzzle, we will investigate how skills training, validation, and support groups can help clients move into the healing process sooner and begin to recover. We will learn creative, powerful and useful tips to protect our client's safety and sanity. We will explore the most effective ways for our client's to re-claim their authentic selves and move into forming healthy relationships for the future.
Learning Objectives:
Identify the different types of narcissistic behavior and be able to differentiate between the subtypes to aid in assessing the needs of their client.
Demonstrate skills in preparing a road map for treatment and to design an individualized tool kit to promote healing.
Explore how treating the trauma associated with their client's abuse can aid in them re-claiming their lives.

Barbara is a therapist specilizing in narcissistic abuse in the Kansas City area. In addition to individual therapy, she offers a weekly support group for survivors and has an upcoming healing retreat.
Barb has relied heavily on family systems theory, which has permeated all her therapeutic work. Her interest in working with women experiencing narcissistic abuse stemmed from her own personal lived experience coupled with her work as the family therapist at EDCare partial hospitalization program. There she learned the invasive, chronic, and compulsive nature of disorders similar to her work in substance abuse. She started her own private practice specializing in working with women healing from narcissistic abuse in 2021.
To aid the healing from Narcissistic Abuse she offers her clients and other therapists the opportunity to refer their clients to her ongoing skills and support group. Conducting groups, she discovered skills groups speed up and aid the healing process and give women validation, hope and support. Today she is a guest discussing narcissism on podcasts and has presented a webinar on the topic. She truly believes that connection is the key to healing.
